Frequently Asked Questions
General & Enrollment
When can my child start? Do you have term dates or can we join anytime?
We offer rolling enrollment, which means your child can start at any time throughout the year. We’ll work with you to find the best start date and ensure a smooth, supported transition into our classroom community.
What if we need to try it first—is there a trial period?
Absolutely. We encourage you to book a Discovery Day so you and your child can visit, meet the teachers, and observe a class. For afternoon enrichment, we offer a free taster session so your child can experience the class before you commit. For day school, we recommend starting with a few trial weeks to ensure it’s the right fit for your family.
Can my child join if they don't speak much English yet?
Yes! Many of our students arrive with limited English, and we support them every step of the way. Chanty is a native Khmer speaker, and we use visual learning, hands-on activities, and patient guidance to help children build confidence and fluency naturally. We meet every child where they are.
What are your actual class sizes? How many children per teacher?
We keep our day school intentionally small—typically 6–12 children per class with both Rich and Chanty present. This low ratio means your child receives genuine personal attention, tailored support, and the chance to be truly known by their teachers.
My child is 5 (or 10)—can they still attend?
Our day school is designed for ages 6–9, as this allows us to tailor curriculum and activities to a specific developmental stage. If your child is close in age (turning 6 soon or a mature 5-year-old), contact us and we can discuss individually. Our afternoon enrichment classes welcome ages 6–11.
Fees & Payment
The $4000 annual tuition—what exactly does that include?
Everything. Your child’s full-day school program (8 AM–12 PM, Mon–Fri), all learning materials, art supplies, access to our natural pool for swimming lessons, participation in cultural celebrations and field trips, and teacher support. There are no hidden fees, no surprise costs, and no “extras” to buy throughout the year.
Can we pay monthly instead of all at once?
Yes. We offer flexible payment plans—monthly, termly (3-4 months), or annual. We accept bank transfer and cash. Contact us to set up a payment schedule that works for your family’s budget.
What's your refund or withdrawal policy?
We understand that family circumstances change. If you need to withdraw your child, we ask for one month’s notice. We’ll work with you on a fair solution depending on timing and circumstances. Contact us to discuss your specific situation—we’re here to support families, not create barriers.
Do you offer any scholarships or financial aid?
We’re a small, independent school and don’t currently have a formal scholarship program. However, if cost is a concern, please talk to us. We may be able to work out a payment plan, sibling arrangement, or other solution. We never want finances to be the only reason a child can’t attend.
Daily Life & Logistics
What time is drop-off and pick-up? Can we be flexible?
The Day School classes are 8:00 AM–12:00 PM. Families can arrive from 7:40, so children can settle into the morning rhythm together. Pick-up is at 12:00. If you’re occasionally running late or need flexibility, just let us know—we’re understanding and family-friendly.
Do you provide meals, or do we pack food?
Parents pack a healthy mid-morning snack and a water bottle for their child. The Day School ends at 12:00 PM, so children go home for lunch. If your child is staying for afternoon classes, please send a packed lunch as well.
Where exactly is the school located? Is it safe?
We’re located at Svay Prey Village Road, Siem Reap. Our campus is secure, green, and designed for children. We have a natural pool, indoor/outdoor learning spaces, and a safe, enclosed environment. Teachers supervise children at all times.
What should my child wear and bring each day?
Comfortable clothes suitable for art, outdoor play, and movement (we get messy and active!). A sun hat, water bottle, healthy snack, and any personal items (like a small comfort toy for younger children). We’ll provide art supplies, learning materials, and swimming gear.
What if my child gets sick or needs to miss school?
Just let us know via WhatsApp or message. We understand children get sick, and there’s no penalty. For day school, tuition covers the year regardless of occasional absences (just like traditional schools). For afternoon classes, we’re flexible—talk to us about make-up options or pausing your enrollment if needed.
Educational Approach & Progress
Will my child actually learn academics, or is this just "play-based"?
Both. We teach real academics—reading, writing, math, science—but through hands-on, creative, and engaging methods. Children learn to read through storytelling and phonics games. They learn math through building, measuring, and problem-solving. Research shows that children retain more and develop stronger critical thinking when learning is active and meaningful, rather than just memorisation. Your child will absolutely progress academically—and they’ll love learning while doing it.
How do you track progress? Will I get reports or updates?
Yes. We provide regular progress updates through informal parent conversations, periodic written observations, and scheduled parent-teacher meetings. Because our classes are small, Richard and Chanty know your child deeply—you’ll always know how they’re doing, what they’re working on, and where they’re growing.
Is your program recognized? Will my child be able to transition to other schools later?
We’re an independent school inspired by Waldorf principles, focused on strong foundational skills in English, math, creativity, and critical thinking. Many of our methods align with progressive international education standards. Children who leave us are well-prepared for other schools—they read, write, problem-solve, and think independently. If you’re planning to transition to a specific school, let us know, and we can discuss curriculum alignment.
Why no screens or tablets? Isn't technology important?
At ages 6–9, children’s brains develop best through hands-on exploration, real-world interaction, social connection, and creative play. Screens can wait—these early years are when imagination, problem-solving, and deep focus are built. We’re not anti-technology; we’re pro-childhood. There’s plenty of time for devices later. Right now, your child needs real experiences, not virtual ones.
What if my child struggles with behaviour, focus, or social skills?
Small classes mean we can give your child the individualized support they need. We work closely with parents to understand each child’s challenges and strengths. Our approach is patient, consistent, and compassionate—we guide children toward self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving rather than punishment. If your child needs extra support, we’ll communicate openly and work together as partners.
Afternoon Classes
Can my child attend only afternoon classes without enrolling in day school?
Yes! Afternoon enrichment (art, science, maths, swimming, Khmer language) is open to all children ages 6–11, whether or not they attend our day school. It’s flexible—book by session, week, or month, whatever works for you.
Do day school students get priority for afternoon class spots?
Yes. Day school families get first access to afternoon enrichment registration, but we always aim to welcome community families as well. If a class is full, we’ll let you know and can add your child to a waitlist or suggest alternative times.
What's the "10-class flex pass" and how does it work?
It’s $120 for 10 classes, and you can use them within 10 weeks across any of our afternoon enrichment classes (art, science, maths). It’s perfect for families who want flexibility—attend when it works for your schedule. Just let us know which classes you’d like to attend each week.
Still Have Questions?
We know choosing a school is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make for your child. If you have a question we haven’t answered here, reach out anytime—we’re happy to talk.
